Activities & entertainment
Our dedicated Activities Co-ordinators really get to know our residents, their interests, hobbies and their life stories. This knowledge helps planning and designing the activity and entertainment programme to make sure that activities not only interest but are meaningful and encourage social interaction.
Our residents are free to join in but some just prefer to watch the fun. We aim for an unstructured approach towards daily leisure, tasks and normal life supported by our programme.
Leisure activities such as gardening and baking are encouraged and accompanied visits to the shops or helping with errands are always popular. Gentle exercise to music, joining in a Wii exercise game, reminiscence, arts and crafts and bingo are all part of our programme designed to ensure that there is always something for everyone to enjoy.
With regular entertainers, live music provides the opportunity to dance or have a traditional sing-a-long. We encourage family and friends to come along too, so nobody has to miss out.
When the weather is fine, the outdoor areas are used as much as possible. Our residents thoroughly enjoy the warm sunshine and lovely gardens with a cup of tea and biscuits.
Air hockey is one of our favourite games to play. Residents enjoy listening and watching to the games. It doesn’t really matter who wins as long as everyone has lots of fun! A perfect game to reinvigorate the senses!
Egg painting takes great patience and can be really messy! We encourage arts and crafts and will make themed or seasonal decorations. Creative juices get flowing in choosing the colours and patterns and a fabulous sense of accomplishment when the piece of artwork is finished.
A fun moment when making some Halloween decorations.
Our staff managed to capture the moment in between sharing the laugh!
A simple game of catch with a very large ball in the the spring sunshine warms the heart in so many ways!
We have plenty of outdoor furniture and our residents love opening up the french doors and enjoy the gardens. This picture was taken at Samuel Hobson House.
Some of our residents absolutely adore cuddling a doll. We aim to see beyond the dementia and appreciate the individuality of our residents.
Some find doll therapy extremely comforting and enjoy the nurturing. With increased communication and improved speech and it’s a joy to see!
We have various artists visit us throughout the year. Residents love hearing organ players, guitarists, individual singers and local choirs entertain. Families and friends often come to listen and enjoy the entertainment together.
One of our residents claims to know the words to every song and it’s now a challenge!
